DOORKEEPER
In 2 Samuel 6:10-12 we read about Oved-Edom a “doorkeeper” who open the door to his house for the “Ark of Adonai”.
So David would not bring the ark of ADONAI into the City of David; rather, David took it over to the house of ‘Oved-Edom the Gitti. The ark of ADONAI stayed in the house of’ Oved-Edom the Gitti for three months; and ADONAI blessed ‘Oved-Edom and all his household. King David was told, “ADONAI has blessed the house of’ Oved-Edom and everyone who belongs to him, thanks to the ark of God.” So David went and joyously brought the ark of God up from the house of ‘Oved-Edom into the City of David.
The Ark of Adonai, represent His presence and His covenant loyalty. When all the people including, king David was afraid to bring the Ark into their homes, Oved-Edom opened the door because he knew that the key to opening the door for God’s presence is reverence to God, in acknowledging that God is who He said He is, the Creator of Heaven and earth. In just three month after he allowed God’s presence into his house, God blessed him to the extend that the news of his blessings reached king David.
The Bible is a guide to help us in our relationship with God and H…is Son Jesus Christ. Oved-Edom showed us that God in His loving kindness wants to make us His home , so that we can experience His blessing as we abide in Him (abide means to comply). Like in Psalm 91:1-2, “You who live in the shelter of ‘Elyon, who spend your nights in the shadow of Shaddai, who say to ADONAI, “My refuge! My fortress! My God, in whom I trust”.
The key is however that we need to be “doorkeepers” opening the door of our hearts for God to enter and make us His Home, and then to keep the door closed to everything that is not in agreement with God and His covenant. Being a doorkeeper is our responsibility, as it is written in Revelation 3:20 “Here, I’m standing at the door, knocking. If someone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he will eat with me.”
Oved-Edom was given that opportunity and the Lord blessed him and his household, for he knew how to open the door to the King of kings and close the door to that which will come with the purpose of stealing his inheritance, the blessing he received. Jesus Christ paid the prize and paved the way for each one of us to come into our full inheritance, being in the presence of God. Remember the veil that separated that Ark of Adonai from the people was torn when Jesus said, it is finished, and He took away the fear of entering into God’s presence for in Jesus we are covered by the Blood of the Lamb. Jesus said in John 10:9-10 “I am the gate; if someone enters through me, he will be safe and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only in order to steal, kill and destroy; I have come so that they may have life, life in its fullest measure”.
